Childhood Matters
We believe childhood should be filled with curiosity, creativity, friendship and adventure. While strong academics are essential, we also make space for climbing trees, exploring rock pools, asking big questions, creating, performing, collaborating and discovering the joy of learning.
Dynamic Learning Weeks
Three times throughout the year, our regular timetable pauses for Dynamic Learning Week, an immersive experience where students engage in interdisciplinary projects, skill-based learning and experiences that challenge them to step outside their comfort zone.

Rather than learning subjects in isolation, students draw on knowledge and skills from across the curriculum to explore meaningful challenges. A single project may combine science, mathematics, literacy, design, technology, the arts and entrepreneurship, encouraging students to think critically, communicate effectively and apply their learning in authentic contexts. This helps learners see why algebra might link to cooking or why listening skills are integral when working with tools.

Research consistently shows that interdisciplinary, project-based learning strengthens engagement, deepens understanding and helps students transfer knowledge to new situations. By connecting learning across subject areas, students develop the adaptability, creativity and problem-solving skills that are essential for life beyond school.

Not to be overlooked, Dynamic Learning Weeks are also times where families can take advantage of extended travel. Attached to school term breaks, these weeks support global learning and families are welcome to spend extra time with family or explore a new location.
Beach & Forest Schooling
At Chatmore, Beach and Forest School is not a break from learning. It is learning.

Using Bermuda's beaches, forests and natural spaces as an extension of the classroom, students investigate real questions, solve authentic problems and apply their knowledge in meaningful contexts. These experiences are carefully planned to complement classroom learning while developing the confidence, curiosity and independence that cannot be taught from a textbook alone.

Research increasingly shows that students learn more deeply when they actively engage with concepts rather than simply receiving information. Outdoor learning improves motivation, strengthens memory, develops executive functioning and supports wellbeing, making it a powerful complement to a rigorous academic programme. Our own experience shows that students are often more focused and engaged in classroom tasks after having been in nature. We also hear the connections and 'lightbulb moments' when students have time to reflect and converse during a walk on the shoreline or on the bus ride back to school.

Academics are carefully woven into each experience. For example, literacy skills are developed when students observe closely, record field notes, ask questions, research local environments and reflect on their experiences through journals, presentations and creative writing. Reading, writing, speaking and listening become authentic tools for investigation rather than isolated classroom tasks.

Beach and Forest School reflects our belief that meaningful learning happens when students experience the world first-hand. Bermuda is not simply where our school is located. It is one of our greatest classrooms.
