In the vast landscape of education, the choice of a learning environment plays a pivotal role in shaping a child's academic journey. For those eager learners, explorers, and enquirers seeking a challenging yet nurturing space, Chatmore emerges as a school of choice...and I can say that with confidence. My son attends.
Disclaimer: I work at Chatmore...but that's not why we chose to send our son there. My little guy is nearly 4 and is the typical preschooler: asking loads of questions, catching on to the inside jokes, negotiating better than an FBI Agent...and did I say asking loads of questions? By all accounts he's your average little boy. He's ready to learn and be challenged and when looking at schools for him, we wanted to know that where ever we sent him he'd be nurtured yet pushed to his full potential.
We've toured the other schools on island and ultimately landed back at Chatmore. Here's why:
One of the primary advantages of a small school environment is the personalised attention students receive. At Chatmore, teachers have the opportunity to truly get to know each student, understanding their unique strengths, challenges, and learning styles. This individualised approach enables the teachers to tailor their teaching methods, fostering a deeper understanding of subjects and promoting academic success.
Our son loves to build relationships with others and the family-like feel ticks that box. The class culture is warm and engaging and we wanted to ensure he was 'seen' as an individual and not lost in the shuffle.
Okay, we think our son is a high flyer and we want him to be able to excel in whatever area he's interested in. Above that, we want him to be a responsible citizen and have the soft skills to navigate any environment. We want him to develop some grit...and also know how to self-manage his tasks and responsibilities.
Chatmore goes above and beyond in its dedication to academic excellence through a carefully curated deck of rigorous and internationally accredited curriculum. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to challenge students and stimulate their intellectual curiosity while developing key skills and understandings outside of the academics. By adhering to internal standards, Chatmore ensures that its educational programmes consistently meet high-quality benchmarks, preparing students for future pursuits. This commitment to rigor not only raises the bar for academic achievement but also instills a sense of discipline and resilience in students, empowering them to face challenges with confidence.
Exploration and Fun:
Yes, our last blurb tapped into our ambitiousness as a family. But our little guy is also a ball of fun. As I'm writing this, I hear him singing "Follow the Leader", that soca song that blares in the summer while he's racing hot wheels down this gigantic track he built with his dad. He's a character and has been lucky enough to have travelled and experienced different cultures and people. He is an enquirer and likes to explore. He got a metal detector for Christmas and has been out searching for treasure on the beach while pretending to be a pirate!
For eager learners, Chatmore provides an environment that fosters exploration and inquiry. The small size allows for a diverse range of extracurricular activities and hands-on experiences, encouraging students to explore their interests beyond the traditional curriculum. Chatmore students are outside often and get dirty, take risks and encourage each other. This emphasis on holistic education enables students to develop a passion for learning that extends beyond the confines of the classroom.
Strong Sense of Belonging:
The close-knit community at Chatmore fosters a strong sense of belonging among students. In this supportive environment, students feel seen, heard, and valued, leading to increased confidence and a positive attitude towards learning. The sense of belonging is not limited to students alone; it extends to parents, creating a school family where everyone is invested in the success and well-being of each student. Above this, Chatmore facilitates a global mindset. We have no choice in this day and age to be aware of differences, active listeners yet steadfast in what we believe.
It may be controversial but I love that Chatmore supports students in having strong opinions and values. It is an extraordinarily diverse community but somehow everyone feels a sense of place. I want that for my children. I want them to know that it's okay to be differently-minded but still get along. My son is a connector, he loves throwing parties and while an observer at first, he loves to get to know others. I know that this will be supported and nurtured at Chatmore.
Choosing the right educational environment is a crucial decision that significantly impacts a child's growth and development. Chatmore, with its emphasis on personalised learning, international best practices, exploration, and strong community bonds, stands as an exemplary option for the change-makers of the future...no, of now. The commitment to involving parents in their child's educational journey further sets Chatmore apart.
