Truly personalised.

Being small provides us with the ideal setting to connect with families, listen to students and experience successes together. Our school model gives students every opportunity to connect with their learning and take ownership of their strengths and areas of need. The teachers are highly skilled and nurturing, creating a safe space for students to take risks and shine!

The Primary Years

Learners largely follow the UK National Curriculum in the Primary Years. Our Literacy offering consists of Jolly Phonics, Jolly Grammar and UK benchmarks and topic areas for reading and writing. We implement the CAT Collins Guided Reading programming to measure reading success. Mathematics is explored using Math in Focus, a Singapore math approach, which supports critical thinking and scaffolded learning.

Primary learners delve into subjects like the humanities, art, design and technology through the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), a project-based approach to learning that links subjects to a central theme. These themes change each half-term and learners collaborate, research and report to demonstrate their understanding. Chatmore was the first school in Bermuda to use this curriculum.

Learners also participate in music, PSHE, French and/or Spanish, PE, art and FitKids. Outings are regular and visitors and parents enhance the curriculum.

Assessment occurs along a continuum and instills in students that learning is never done. Whether it be a spelling test with a score or an oral presentation focused on linking concepts, learners develop confidence in knowing they are strong in some areas and beginning to develop competence in others.

Home learning begins in Reception with reading and games, as well as period projects to support their IPC units. It gently increases as learners progress but we maintain a philosophy that home learning should be purposeful. We also believe that real-world experiences like eating as a family or grocery shopping can hold valuable lessons, too!

The Secondary Years

The Secondary Years are about developing a strong sense of self and confidence in their learning pathway. We develop students who are globally-minded, self-assured and compassionate.

In Middle Years (M1-M3/Year 7-9), students continue to follow the UK National Curriculum and a Singapore math approach through Math in Focus. English, Mathematics and Science are singular subjects as well as Leadership, Bermuda Cultural Studies, PSHE, Study Skills, Student Project, PE and FitKids. Learners begin some IGCSE course work in M3. Electives include Music, Art and Languages.

These themes change each half-term and learners collaborate, research and report to demonstrate their understanding. Chatmore was the first school in Bermuda to use this curriculum. Home learning at the Secondary Years involves projects, short-form assignments and revision. We also believe that real-world experiences like eating as a family or grocery shopping can hold valuable lessons, too!

In the Senior Years (S1-S4/Year 10-13), students embark on one of three pathways: Academic, Project or Career. The Academic Pathway involves completion of a set of IGCSE courses and enrolment in Bermuda College's Dual Enrolment Programme, leading students to complete their Associates Degree by graduation. The Project Pathway entails completion of DVQs through our DaVinci Life Skills Curriculum as well as completion of ICGSE courses. For students who may be suited for employment after high school, our Career Pathway allows them to gain qualifications and skills to ready them for their chosen career path.

Students are supported through regular meetings with their advisors. They are provided with opportunities to explore careers and post-secondary schools that best suit their aspirations. Chatmore has proudly graduated students who have enrolled in Bermuda College with 3.5+ GPAs before transitioning to careers or further educational opportunities abroad.
